The 256GB cost comparison
Apple's advertised UK price for Duo is £1,999. Samsung's published UK launch RRPs are £1,699 for Fold8 and £1,899 for Fold8 Ultra. All figures include VAT and were checked on 10 September 2026.
Duo therefore adds £300 per phone above Fold8, or £100 above Fold8 Ultra, on this reference basis. Across ten phones the differences are £3,000 and £1,000. They exclude airtime, support, accessories and any supplier discounts.
The inner display does not tell the whole story
Duo and Fold8 both have a 7.6-inch inner display. Duo's outer display is 5.4 inches; Samsung lists Fold8's cover display at 5.5 inches. Fold8 Ultra moves to an 8.0-inch inner screen and 6.5-inch cover screen.
These measurements do not establish identical usable area. Shape, interface controls, keyboard placement and the way an app adapts to the display affect how much useful information the employee sees.
Compare the same CRM record, spreadsheet and PDF. Check opening, closing, rotating and returning to the application after authentication.
Weight and platform are measurable differences
Apple lists Duo at 254g, compared with 201g for Fold8 and 215g for Fold8 Ultra. Duo is therefore 53g heavier than Fold8 before accessories. Try the carrying arrangement the employee actually uses.
Duo runs the iPhone platform with A20 Pro; the two Samsung Fold8 models use Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy. Different chips and operating systems should not be ranked by their names alone. Application compatibility and the completed task matter more.
For an established iPhone business, Duo may preserve familiar software and support processes. For a Samsung fleet, Fold8 may fit the existing management environment. Confirm enrolment and policy behaviour for the exact device and software.
Timing can rule out a model
Samsung's Fold8 models were released in the UK on 7 August 2026. Apple's announced Duo UK launch is 23 October. A project that needs phones before then cannot treat all three as interchangeable choices.
Check supplier stock and delivery independently. If you plan to wait for Duo, include any overlap with current contracts and the cost of temporary devices.
A foldable should pass a working trial
Ask staff to perform repeatable tasks on a conventional phone as well as the folding candidates. Record where the larger screen helps, where it makes no difference and where handling becomes slower.
Then compare cases, damage cover, repair excess, turnaround and loan-device arrangements. A premium phone that is unavailable during a repair can interrupt work regardless of its original specifications.
