Business Mobile Contract Ending: Your Options & Rights
Last checked: 12 October 2026
When your business mobile minimum term ends, check whether the service continues, what you will pay and how to leave or renew. The end date is a prompt to review the agreement, rather than an instruction to cancel your number. Ask for each line's status in writing before agreeing a new term.
What must a provider tell a business customer?
Ofcom's business guidance includes end-of-contract and annual best tariff information among the protections for all businesses. These protections are not confined to firms with ten employees or fewer.
Under General Condition C1.21 onwards, where a qualifying service continues automatically beyond its commitment period, the business notification must explain the term's ending and how to terminate; the provider must also give suitable best tariff advice. Notice must arrive in a timely manner before the term ends, through a durable medium that you can retain. Relevant customers whose commitment period has expired must receive best tariff information at least annually.
Ofcom's consumer advice describes a 10–40 day notification window. Do not assume that consumer window is a fixed deadline for every business account: the business provision uses timely notice. Calendar your own review rather than relying solely on a reminder.
What extra protections apply to small businesses?
Ofcom's business guidance lists additional protections for businesses with ten employees or fewer, including pre-contract information and a contract summary, consent to renewal and a maximum 24-month commitment period for the covered phone and broadband services. Scope and any permitted express agreement to different terms matter; check the current conditions for your account.
The business contracts guide also distinguishes handset arrangements from service commitments and warns about early termination charges. Ask separately about airtime, device finance and any other linked agreement.
Compare your three practical options
| Option | What to ask before deciding |
|---|---|
| Keep the current service while reviewing | Confirm the ongoing charge, notice requirement and any discounts ending |
| Renew with the current provider | Get the full new term, allowances, price changes and device obligations in writing |
| Move to another provider | Compare coverage, total cost and a number-transfer plan for every line |
Compare The Networks offers business mobile agreements with a minimum 24-month term. A quote should make the exact commitment clear. Use our quote checklist to compare proposals on the same basis.
A worked review for a six-line account
Suppose four lines have a confirmed end date of 30 November, while two end in February. Start with a six-row list showing the number, user, end date, current charge and handset balance. Ask for a renewal proposal for the four November lines and a separate cost to move the February lines early.
Compare those options with a staged switch. Do not assume one account reference means all six commitments finish together. Keep the written responses with the proposed transfer dates so the account administrator can check what was authorised.
Before renewing or switching
- Obtain the agreement and minimum-term end date for every number.
- Ask for ongoing charges, notice requirements and any remaining device payments.
- Request your current provider's best tariff advice and a written renewal quote.
- Check signal where staff actually work, using our coverage checklist.
- Agree account authority and the transfer sequence. Follow the multiple-number switching guide for porting details.
If a notification is missing, ask the provider for a copy and when it was issued. Keep correspondence in writing and use its complaints process if the response does not resolve the issue.
Frequently asked questions
Will my business mobile stop working on the end date?
Check your agreement and ask the provider to confirm what happens next. Avoid cancelling a service you intend to transfer until your number-transfer arrangements are agreed.
Does getting a PAC prove I can leave free of charge?
No. Obtain a written exit-cost breakdown and check remaining commitments before scheduling the move. See our business number guide.
Does a new deal clear my handset balance?
Do not assume that. Ask how any device agreement is treated in the proposal and record its remaining payments separately.
