Using Your Phone Abroad with O2 — Business Roaming Guide 2026

If you're using an O2 business mobile abroad, the headline is simple: in 47 European destinations you pay nothing extra. O2 still includes Roam at Home on every business plan, which gives you up to 25GB of your UK data allowance plus your inclusive minutes and texts to use across Europe at no extra cost. EE and Vodafone scrapped their equivalent free-roaming deals years ago, so this is the bit most businesses don't realise they're missing.

For the rest of the world, O2 charges a daily roaming pass that lets you use your UK plan as-is. We'll cover both below, including the small print that catches people out.

What is O2 Roam at Home?

Roam at Home is O2's name for free roaming in Europe. If you're on an O2 business plan and travel to one of 47 included destinations, your UK allowance just works:

It's automatic. Land in Spain, your phone connects to a local network, you carry on using it.

The 47 destinations cover all 27 EU member states plus another 20 commonly-visited countries — Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland, Turkey, Israel, Vatican City, and several others. Always check the live list on O2's site before you travel because the boundary moves occasionally.

Why this matters more than people think

EE and Vodafone both removed their free EU roaming for new customers in 2021. If you're on an EE business plan, free roaming is normally a bolt-on you have to buy. Vodafone has a daily Roaming Charter pass for European travel that's typically billed per day of use.

So if your team travels in Europe even occasionally — sales meetings, conferences, the odd site visit — staying on O2 saves real money. Two staff doing one EU trip a quarter on EE could easily run up significant roaming bolt-on costs across a year. On O2 there's nothing extra to pay.

This is the single biggest reason businesses end up moving to O2 from EE, in our experience.

The 25GB cap — what actually happens if you go over

The cap is on data only. Calls and texts stay free. If you do hit the 25GB ceiling abroad, you'll either get throttled or charged a small fair-use rate per GB depending on your plan. For most office-bound staff doing emails and a bit of mapping abroad, 25GB is a long way off — you'd have to be streaming video on cellular for hours.

If your team genuinely needs more than 25GB while in Europe, O2 sells additional roaming bundles, but the conversation we usually have is "switch to office wifi when you arrive" — that fixes it for free.

Using O2 outside Europe — the rest of the world

Outside the Roam at Home zone, O2 charges a daily roaming pass per device, per day of use. The pass lets you use your UK minutes, texts and data as if you were at home, in 100+ destinations including the US, Australia, India and most of Asia. The exact daily price varies by region, but it's typically much cheaper than paying per-MB ad-hoc.

The honest summary: if your business has any EU travel at all, O2 wins on roaming. If your team is purely UK-based, the roaming bit doesn't really swing the decision and you should be picking on coverage and price.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does O2 still include free EU roaming for business in 2026?

Yes. O2 has kept Roam at Home on its business plans, giving up to 25GB of UK data plus inclusive minutes and texts in 47 European destinations at no extra cost. There's no daily fee and no opt-in needed — it just works when you land.

Which countries are covered by O2 Roam at Home?

All 27 EU countries plus another 20 European destinations including Iceland, Norway, Switzerland, Turkey and Israel. The exact list shifts occasionally, so check O2's current Roam at Home destinations list before you travel.

What happens when I use my O2 phone in the US or other non-European countries?

O2 charges a daily roaming pass per device on the day you use it. The pass lets you use your UK plan as if you were at home in 100+ destinations including the US, Australia, Canada and most of Asia. If you don't use your phone, you pay nothing — pricing only triggers on actual usage.

Is O2 cheaper than EE for business mobile if I travel in Europe?

For businesses that travel in Europe even occasionally, O2 normally works out cheaper despite EE having slightly bigger network coverage. EE removed free EU roaming in 2021, so each member of staff travelling in Europe would otherwise need a paid bolt-on. Two trips a quarter across two staff can easily mean substantial annual EE roaming costs that O2 customers don't pay.

What is the 25GB EU data cap on O2 business plans?

If your O2 plan includes more than 25GB of monthly data, only the first 25GB can be used in Europe under Roam at Home. The remainder stays UK-only. For most office staff doing emails, navigation and the odd video call abroad, 25GB is far more than they'd use in a typical trip.

Can I tether or use my O2 phone as a hotspot abroad?

Yes — tethering works under Roam at Home and counts toward the 25GB EU cap. Useful for getting a laptop online from a hotel that doesn't have decent wifi.
