An eSIM (embedded SIM) is a digital SIM built into your phone. Instead of inserting a physical SIM card, you download your mobile plan directly to your device. This guide walks you through the full setup process.
Before You Start
- Check your phone supports eSIM — iPhone XS/XR or later, Samsung Galaxy S20 or later, Google Pixel 3a or later
- Connect to Wi-Fi — you need an internet connection to download the eSIM profile
- Have your QR code or activation details ready — your provider sends these via email
Install on iPhone
Steps
- Go to Settings > Mobile Service (or Cellular)
- Tap Add eSIM or Add Mobile Plan
- Tap Use QR Code and scan the QR code from your provider
- When prompted, tap Add Mobile Plan
- Label the plan (e.g. “Business”) and choose your default line settings
- Toggle Airplane Mode on, wait 10 seconds, then turn it off
- Check your signal bars — you should now be connected
Install on Samsung Galaxy
Steps
- Go to Settings > Connections > SIM Manager
- Tap Add eSIM
- Tap Scan QR code from service provider
- Scan the QR code and tap Confirm
- Wait for the eSIM profile to download (this can take 1–2 minutes)
- Toggle Airplane Mode on and off
- Check your connection in the status bar
Install on Google Pixel
Steps
- Go to Settings > Network & Internet > SIMs
- Tap + (Add) next to SIMs
- Tap Download a SIM instead?
- Scan the QR code and follow the prompts
- Toggle Airplane Mode on and off to complete activation
Tip: If scanning the QR code doesn’t work, you can enter the activation details manually. See our manual activation guide.
After Installation
Once your eSIM is active:
- Set it as your primary data line if using dual SIM
- Enable Wi-Fi Calling for better indoor coverage — see our guide
- Test a call and text message to confirm everything works
Important: Each eSIM QR code can only be scanned once. If you get an error, do not delete the eSIM and try again — contact your provider for a new code.
