USA Roaming on UK Business Mobile (2026): What's Included, What's Not
Last updated: April 2026
USA is on CTN's inclusive roaming list — your UK SIM works at UK rates across the US for calls, texts and data within your standard UK allowance. It's also on the inclusive UK-to-USA call list, so calling US contacts from the UK is covered by the international minutes bundle.
That makes CTN a genuinely competitive option for UK businesses with any US activity. Here's what's actually covered and what to watch for.
What's included when in the USA
Roaming in all 50 US states plus DC:
- Calls — within your UK allowance (unlimited if that's your UK plan)
- Texts — within your UK allowance
- Data — within your UK data allowance (25GB/50GB/100GB depending on tariff)
- Incoming calls — free (you don't pay to receive calls while abroad)
- Calls back to UK numbers — use your UK minutes allowance (standard UK-to-UK allowance)
Other relevant destinations on the inclusive list:
- Canada — inclusive for both roaming and UK-calls
- Mexico — inclusive for roaming only (not UK-to-Mexico calls)
- Puerto Rico / US Virgin Islands — check specific inclusion; varies by network partner agreement
Realistic US business travel scenarios
Tech conferences and trade shows
- CES Las Vegas (January) — biggest tech show. UK tech firm attendees benefit from US roaming being inclusive.
- SXSW Austin (March) — tech / media / music. Heavy data use for networking, app-based scheduling.
- RSA Conference San Francisco (April/May) — cybersecurity.
- Dreamforce San Francisco (September) — Salesforce / enterprise tech.
- AWS re:Invent Las Vegas (December) — cloud / AWS ecosystem.
- Shoptalk Las Vegas — retail tech.
For all of these, UK business mobiles with inclusive USA roaming work at UK rates throughout.
UK tech firms with US offices or customers
New York, San Francisco, Seattle, Austin, Boston are major UK tech presence cities. UK founders and teams flying over for sales calls, partnerships, or investor meetings benefit from their UK SIM working as normal.
Professional services
UK firms visiting US clients — legal, consulting, accountancy, M&A. Inclusive roaming avoids expense-claim headaches for short trips.
Export and trade missions
DIT-organised trade missions, individual exporter trips, due diligence visits for acquisitions. All covered.
Creative industries
UK media, film, advertising, music industry visits to LA, NYC. Heavy data users (streaming, cloud uploads, social content) benefit from 50GB+ data allowances.
The "where's the catch" — fair use limits
Like most inclusive roaming arrangements, there are fair-use guardrails:
- Data fair use cap — typically 20-40GB of USA data per month on "unlimited" plans. Beyond, throttling or additional charges apply.
- Duration cap — inclusive roaming is for travel, not residency. Spend more than ~60 days/year connected to USA networks and providers may ask questions.
- Usage pattern — if your phone's primary network is USA across multiple months, providers may treat it as a US-resident device and query.
For normal business trips (1-4 weeks at a time, several times a year), fair-use limits almost never trigger.
What's NOT covered
- Calls FROM the USA to non-US, non-UK destinations. If you're in New York and need to call a supplier in Japan from your UK phone — out of bundle (Japan isn't inclusive).
- Calls to US premium-rate numbers (1-900 numbers, some 1-800 international equivalents). Always extra.
- Data over the fair-use cap. On CTN, this becomes out-of-bundle data at standard rates.
- Central / South America beyond Mexico. Guatemala, Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia etc. are not on the roaming list.
Network coverage considerations
UK networks roam via US partner networks — usually T-Mobile, AT&T or Verizon. Coverage quality in the US varies:
- Urban (NYC, SF, LA, Chicago, DC) — excellent on all partner networks
- Suburban (office parks, smaller cities) — very good
- Rural / mountain / desert areas — variable; can be poor in parts of the Rockies, Appalachia, rural South/Midwest
- Buildings / basements — US buildings (especially older ones with steel and brick construction) can block signal; WiFi calling is useful
For business travel mainly to cities and airports, any UK network works well. For US road trips, remote conferences, or rural US visits, EE or Vodafone's US partner networks are typically strongest.
WiFi calling while in USA
Most modern UK business mobiles support WiFi calling — your phone connects to WiFi and routes calls/texts back to the UK network, treating them as if you were in the UK.
This is useful when:
- Hotel cellular signal is poor
- In tall US buildings with bad coverage
- You want to make a UK-to-UK call without using roaming allowance
Available on EE, Vodafone, O2, Three — check your specific phone model supports it. Most iPhones and Samsung Galaxies do.
Typical pricing
Standard CTN business mobile pricing applies to USA-using customers:
- Occasional USA traveller (1-2 trips/year): 25GB tariff, ~£22-26/user/month
- Regular USA traveller (quarterly visits): 50GB tariff, ~£26-30/user/month
- USA-heavy team (monthly visits, conference circuit): 100GB / unlimited international, ~£30-35/user/month
FAQs
Are calls to the USA from the UK included on CTN business mobile?
Yes. USA is on the 39-country inclusive call list. Calls from UK to US landlines and mobiles come out of your monthly international minutes bundle (200, 500 or unlimited depending on tariff).
Is my UK data allowance usable in the USA?
Yes. USA is on the 83-destination inclusive roaming list. Your UK data allowance (25GB/50GB/100GB) applies in the USA at UK rates, subject to the fair-use cap (typically 20-40GB USA specifically).
What about Canada?
Canada is also on both inclusive lists (calls and roaming). Whether calling Toronto from London or roaming in Vancouver, covered.
And Mexico?
Mexico is on the inclusive roaming list but NOT the inclusive call list. Roaming in Mexico is covered. UK-to-Mexico calls aren't inclusive — they're out-of-bundle international rates unless you add a Mexico bolt-on.
Can I use WiFi calling in US hotels on my UK business mobile?
Yes, if your handset supports WiFi calling (most iPhones, recent Samsung Galaxies, Google Pixels). Connects to hotel WiFi and routes calls through your UK network at UK rates.
Is there a cheaper option than roaming if I'm in the USA for a month?
For long stays (3+ weeks), a US prepaid eSIM (Airalo, Holafly, NomadSIM, or buy T-Mobile/Mint directly) can work out cheaper, especially if you're a heavy data user beyond the fair-use cap. For typical 1-2 week trips, inclusive roaming is usually simpler and cheaper.
