Roaming in France on UK Business Mobile (2026): Charges, Inclusive Plans, Coverage

Last updated: April 2026

France is one of the most common overseas destinations for UK businesses — Paris trade visits, Lyon industrial meetings, wine trips to Bordeaux or Champagne, supplier visits across the country, cross-Channel truck routes, sales calls at Vivatech and Paris fashion weeks. Your mobile bill shouldn't surprise you for any of that.

Here's what each UK network actually charges for France roaming, and what's included where.

France roaming by network (2026)

CTN Business

France is on the 83-destination inclusive roaming list. UK allowance applies at UK rates — calls, texts, data. No roaming uplift. No daily fee. Part of standard CTN business tariffs.

Fair use: ~60 days/year of consistent French-network primary use. Normal business travel doesn't approach this.

O2 Business

France is on O2's "Roam at Home" list — inclusive on most O2 business plans. Good coverage, usually 25GB EU data cap on "unlimited" plans.

EE Business

Most EE business plans apply a daily roaming fee (£2-5/day) for France unless you have an inclusive-roaming bolt-on. Some higher-tier business plans include France in inclusive roaming.

Vodafone Business

Daily roaming fee (£2-3/day) on standard plans. Higher-tier and enterprise plans can include France.

Three Business

Mixed — some plans include France (legacy "Go Roam"), newer plans charge. Check your specific plan.

What you'll actually pay

For a 5-day Paris trip:

  • CTN Business: £0 extra (inclusive)
  • O2 Business (Roam at Home): £0 extra
  • EE Business standard: ~£12.50 daily fees (5 × £2.50/day)
  • Vodafone Business standard: ~£10 daily fees
  • Three Business (varies): £0-£15

Across a 10-person team doing a 5-day trade show: EE or Vodafone standard plans add £100-125 in roaming fees alone. Over a year with a few trips, that's real money.

Network coverage in France

UK networks roam via French partners (Orange France, SFR, Bouygues, Free Mobile). Coverage quality in France:

  • Paris / Île-de-France — excellent on all networks
  • Major cities (Lyon, Marseille, Bordeaux, Nice, Toulouse, Lille) — very good across the board
  • Motorways — generally solid
  • Rural countryside — variable; parts of central France, Pyrenees, Massif Central can be thin
  • Trains (TGV, Intercités) — tunnels and high-speed sections can drop signal intermittently
  • Ski resorts — good in villages, patchy on slopes depending on altitude

For wine trips (Bordeaux, Burgundy, Champagne, Loire), coverage is usually fine in towns and villages; vineyards themselves can drop signal between dense buildings.

What to do if your current plan charges

Short trip (1-5 days): Accept the daily fee as a one-off cost, or buy a France/Europe eSIM for the trip.

Regular trips (monthly): Add an inclusive-roaming bolt-on to your current plan, or switch provider at renewal.

Heavy France-user: Switch to a tariff that includes France in inclusive roaming without caps — CTN or O2 Business.

WiFi calling in France

All major modern handsets support WiFi calling — your phone connects to hotel or venue WiFi and routes calls/texts as if you were in the UK. Useful when:

  • Hotel cellular signal is weak in your room
  • Paris basements or Metro stations where signal is spotty
  • Avoiding any roaming cost on a plan with daily fees

Check WiFi calling is enabled in your phone's settings before the trip.

What's NOT included (gotchas)

  • Calls from France to non-EU non-UK numbers — using your UK phone from France to call somewhere outside France or the UK counts as an international call from your phone's perspective. On CTN's inclusive 39-country call list, most EEA/USA/Canada destinations still work. Outside that list (e.g. calling Turkey from France) — not inclusive.
  • Data above fair use caps — 20-40GB France-specific data on most "unlimited" plans, beyond which throttling or additional charges
  • Monaco — small state, not always on every network's inclusive list. CTN includes Monaco on both inclusive call and roaming lists.

FAQs

Does my UK business mobile work in France?

Yes — UK mobiles work throughout France. Whether it's inclusive (no roaming fees) or charges a daily fee depends on your specific plan and network. O2 and CTN include France in standard inclusive roaming; EE and Vodafone typically charge daily unless you have a specific inclusive plan.

Does inclusive roaming cover Corsica and French overseas territories?

Corsica (France) — yes, inclusive on CTN. French overseas territories like Guadeloupe, Martinique, French Guiana, Réunion, Mayotte — also on CTN's 83-country inclusive roaming list. These are often excluded on other networks' EU-only plans.

What if my phone connects to a Belgian or Spanish network near the border?

It can happen near the borders. If you're in France but connected to a network labelled Belgium, Spain or Switzerland, the roaming charges reflect that country, not France. Check your phone's connected network before use. France, Belgium and Spain are all usually inclusive on the same plans; Switzerland often isn't.

Can I use my UK mobile on French high-speed trains?

Yes — but signal drops in tunnels and some rural high-speed sections. WiFi calling on the train's WiFi (if available) can help.

What about the Channel Tunnel?

Signal is mostly absent in the tunnel itself. Text messages and calls can't be reliably sent/received during the 20-minute crossing. Emerges at the French end with a French network connection.
