Business Mobile for UK Recruitment Agencies (2026): International Candidates & Heavy Calling

Last updated: April 2026

Recruitment agencies are one of the heaviest-calling professions in the UK. A typical consultant makes 80-120 outbound calls a day — candidates, clients, references, interview confirmations. Add to that: international candidate pipelines (EU, USA, India, Philippines, Middle East, Australia), WhatsApp-based informal chat, LinkedIn InMails, video interviews. Your mobile tariff needs to keep up.

The staff pattern

Consultants / resourcers

Outbound-heavy calling. Candidate calls, client calls, referencing. Data for LinkedIn mobile, Bullhorn/Vincere/JobAdder CRM on the go, occasional video interviews on Teams/Zoom from mobile.

Tariff: 100GB / unlimited international (or 50GB / 500 international for UK-only desks). ~£28-34/user/mo.

Managing consultants / team leaders

Consultant role plus team oversight. Same tariff pattern as consultants.

Branch directors / senior management

Client relationship heavy, less candidate calling. Travel between offices, networking events, client pitches.

Tariff: 100GB / unlimited international. ~£30-35/user/mo.

Admin / accounts / compliance

Timesheets, back-office. Light phone use.

Tariff: 25GB / 200 international. ~£22-24/user/mo.

Operations / contract management (for umbrella / contractor businesses)

Daily calls to contractors and clients. Moderate international (contractors abroad, foreign clients).

Tariff: 50GB / 500 international. ~£26-28/user/mo.

International candidate calling

A major part of UK recruitment revenue now involves international candidates — EU (Polish, Romanian, Bulgarian, Portuguese, Spanish, Italian), USA-educated candidates for specialist roles, India/Pakistan/Bangladesh for IT and engineering, Philippines for nursing and care, Middle East for finance and energy.

CTN coverage:

Candidate regionUK-to-country calls inclusive?
EEA (Poland, Romania, Italy, Spain, Portugal, etc.)Yes
USA, CanadaYes
Switzerland, NorwayYes
India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, PhilippinesNo (add-on needed)
UAE, Saudi Arabia, QatarNo (add-on)
Australia, New ZealandRoaming yes, calls no
Brazil, ArgentinaNo (add-on)
China, Japan, South KoreaNo (add-on)

For EU-heavy desks, standard CTN tariffs cover daily calling. For Asia, Middle East or Latin America-heavy desks, an international add-on bolt-on (£10-25/month per consultant) covering specific regions is the usual answer. We quote these alongside base tariffs.

Call recording — the REC and other compliance considerations

Recruitment is partially self-regulated (REC for mainstream recruitment, APSCo for professional services, specific regulators for financial services recruitment). Call recording expectations vary:

  • Standard recruitment (REC): No formal recording mandate. Many agencies record anyway for quality, training and dispute resolution.
  • Financial services recruitment: FCA-authorised work requires appropriate recording of regulated conversations.
  • Executive search / retained: Recording common for search methodology audit trail.
  • Medical / health recruitment: GDPR-sensitive — recording with clear consent, strict retention.

Mobile-direct calls don't record natively. Solution: route outbound client/candidate calls through a VoIP extension that records (softphone or deskphone mode, rings to mobile number). CTN bundles mobile + VoIP + recording for exactly this pattern.

WhatsApp and recruitment

WhatsApp has become the most popular informal channel for UK recruitment communication — candidates expect it, clients increasingly do. Real implications:

  • On personal mobiles: when a consultant leaves, their WhatsApp conversations (with candidates and clients) leave with them. Major IP loss risk.
  • WhatsApp Business: on the agency's account, works better for retention of history. But tied to a phone number.
  • Recommended pattern: agency owns the number. WhatsApp Business on the agency-owned number. If the consultant leaves, the number stays; WhatsApp history stays.

This is an argument FOR agency-provided business mobiles rather than personal BYOD for recruitment.

CRM integration

Major UK recruitment CRMs (Bullhorn, Vincere, JobAdder, Firefish, RDB) all have mobile apps and click-to-call integrations. Consultants need:

  • Bullhorn/Vincere mobile app for candidate records on the road
  • Click-to-call from CRM to mobile dialler
  • Call logging back into CRM (automatic or semi-automatic)

Some setups route calls through VoIP extensions that log into CRM automatically; others rely on manual logging. For agencies making 100+ calls/day/consultant, automation matters.

FAQs

What tariff suits a high-volume recruitment consultant?

100GB / unlimited international. Daily call volume is 80-120 calls; data-heavy with CRM mobile apps, LinkedIn, video interviews. Unlimited international gives freedom to call EU candidates without worrying about bundle exhaustion.

Are calls to Indian or Filipino candidates inclusive on CTN?

No — India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Philippines aren't on the 39-country inclusive list. For desks that call these regions regularly, add an international bolt-on (£10-20/month for relevant country packs). Alternative: use a VoIP service with cheap per-minute rates for these destinations.

Can you record consultant calls for compliance and training?

Yes — via VoIP layer. Consultants' outbound calls route through a VoIP extension that records; the extension rings their mobile number. Bundleable with business mobile through CTN.

What happens when a consultant leaves — do they take their candidate contacts?

If candidate conversations were on agency-owned business mobile + agency WhatsApp Business number, the history stays when the consultant leaves. If conversations were on personal phones with personal WhatsApp, the history walks. Worth getting right from day one.

Do you integrate with Bullhorn / Vincere / JobAdder?

CTN doesn't integrate directly into CRM — we supply mobile SIMs. For CRM integration (click-to-call, automatic call logging), the integration happens at the handset app level (Bullhorn mobile app) or via a VoIP layer (Bullhorn-integrated VoIP platforms like VOIPstudio, 8x8, RingCentral).
